Even letting the debate continue, when our species may hang in the balance, says something about us. I argue that there is a certain presumptuousness surrounding our approach to how we are addressing global warming that goes well beyond simply having a short-term perspective. What if the cockroach has a more sustainable position? I recommend the following post: http://euandus3.wordpress.com/2009/11/05/climatic-presumption-what-is-the-forecast/

Dear Webmaster,

I will like to come in contact with Keith Ferguson. Do you know how. I am a danish master student, writing my thesis on Obamas stratigy. I will like to hear Keith view on what he wrote March 5, 2007 on this website.

Now to years after when he look back at the campaign, does hee still see it as deliberative proces?

By Keith Ferguson.

”For Obama, ‘Deliberative Democracy’ Begins with the Constitution:

For those of us who believe Obama is truly best suited to serve as the next President of the United States, we are especially called to understand the importance of the Constitution in this campaign. He has said that its elaborate machinery – its separation of powers and checks and balances and federalist principles and Bill of Rights – are designed to force us into a conversation, a ‘deliberative democracy’ in which all citizens are required to engage in a process of testing their ideas against an external reality, persuading others of their point of view, and building shifting alliances of consent.” We already know that the election of Obama will require persuading others to our own point of view and building alliances of consent with a vast cross-section of good-willed Americans. But in order to begin mobilizing that ‘deliberative democracy’, it is incumbent on us to first reacquaint ourselves with the elaborate machinery of the Constitution (Keith Ferguson: March 5, 2007).

correction: I didn't mean to say that Bastiat was an influence on the founding fathers (he wasn't born 'till the 1800s), but meant to direct you to him as one of the clearest thinkers on these issues (and kinda fun to read).

I wish I had more time to respond, because there are so many things in this post that should be addressed.
I recognize the passion that you feel for the new president, and understand as well or better than you, the necessity for a new direction for America.
I believe you have misunderstood the philosophy that is at the core of the founding of this nation, and I encourage you to continue studying that period of our history, especially the writings of Locke and Bastiat, whom the founding fathers held in high esteem.
